PRACTICES TO RECOGNISE AND REINFORCE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

In addition to the many forms of recognition, which exist in the classroom, playground, at sport and in the general school community (smiles, words of praise/thanks, stickers, written comments, telephone calls to parents, verbal commendation to fellow staff members including executives, valuable and constructive comments on tests and assignments etc.) the following system is also in operation.

PRINCIPALS AWARD

 MERIT CERTIFICATE

Awarded to students for a variety of class and school community achievements and activities. This includes recognition of class performance, project work, home study, test result, sporting involvement, creative achievement, teacher support, assistance to fellow students, school service etc.

CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE

This certificate represents the acknowledgment of achievement by the Student’s Year Adviser.  When a student has collected 6 Merit Certificates, the Year Adviser awards a Certificate of Excellence.  It is the student’s responsibility to submit the Merit Certificates to the Year Adviser.

PRINCIPAL’S AWARD

This award represents outstanding achievement and participation by a student  When a student has received 3 Certificates of Excellence they may apply to the Year Adviser for a Principal’s Award.

The Principal’s Award is presented at a Year Assembly and the student’s name is recorded on the Principal’s Award honour list for that year.

CELEBRATION ASSEMBLIES

These are held regularly to recognise individual and group achievements and to present Principal’s awards. As well they provide an opportunity to showcase student’s talents in such fields as drama, dance and music.

ACHIEVEMENT FOLDER

This folder is to be used by you during your school career.  It will enable you to store and record all your achievements within school, the community or in wider areas.

These days it is very competitive and employers are looking for the person who can best present themselves by showing evidence of their personal achievements in a wide range of fields.

Here are some ideas of items that you can store in this folder.  Later on you may be able to group them in a logical manner.

  • School reports
  • Sporting awards – both school/community
  • Certificates – Merit- Presentation Night prizes
  • Statewide competitions
  • Debating
  • Service Awards – school/community
  • Awards from clubs
  • Photographs of awards and trophies
  • Photographs of major art works etc
  • Principal’s Awards

Most employers are interested in your achievements from Year 7 onwards.
