ATTENDANCE

Students and parents are advised that the swipe system will continue in 2010. The 2009 swipe card must be used by all students in Year 8 -12 until issued with the 2010 card. Please ensure that all swipe cards are kept safe and secure over the holiday period. Students will be required to return the 2009 card when 2010 is issued. Year 7 students will have swipe cards issued in week 2. Manual rolls will be taken by teachers until the swipe cards are issued to Year 7 students.

A reminder to all parents/ caregivers that there is a proforma available on this website which should be used to explain any absences from school. Students are required to provide an explanation of absences immediately upon returning to school. There are clearly labelled letterboxes for Years 7&8, Years 9&10 and Years 11 & 12. If your child will be away for two or more days please contact the school. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please contact:

It is imperative that students swipe on every day to ensure their attendance is recorded accurately. In the event of a lost swipe card the student is required to sign on in Mr Andrew’s office (Head Teacher Admin) and report to Mrs Hutton to order a replacement card at a cost of $5.00.

Mr Andrew    (Years 10, 11 and 12)

Ms Morrison   (Years 7, 8 and 9)

We encourage students to seek proper medical care and rest when they are unwell. In particular, those with infectious conditions, should stay home to benefit their own recovery and to reduce the risk of other students and staff becoming infected.

ABSENTEE NOTES

Every absence from school, whether short or long term,  must be explained in writing the day the student returns to school, even if a phoned message has been received.  Notes are filed and must be available for perusal by Department of Education & Training personnel, including the Home School Liaison Officer.  If an unexplained absence continues for more than a 3 day period one of two things may happen:

  1. A letter detailing absences and requesting information will be posted.
  2. The Deputy Principal (Management) will be notified.  He may inform the Home School Liaison Officer attached to the school.

Where absences remain unexplained they will be recorded as unjustified on the student’s report.

APPLICATIONS FOR EXEMPTIONS

Under Department Education Policy, students between the ages of 6 and 15 years and 0 months can apply for exemption for leave from school if the absence extends beyond five days.  An application form is available from the Head Teacher Administration and must be returned to for processing.  It is preferable to have applications in well before the absence date as they are required to be approved through regional office.

APPLICATIONS FOR PASSOUTS

Permission to leave school during school hours should be sought only in emergencies.  Sport periods are normal education times and passouts will not be issued on sport afternoons except for specialist appointments made in advance when no other time is available.  Such passout requests MUST be accompanied by an appointment card from the specialist.

The Principal reserves the right to withold permission for a passout if notes omit important information, e.g. omission of date or reason for passout, e.g. Dental, Medical, etc.

Requests for Pass-outs must be clearly written by the guardian on notepaper and must show:

  • student’s name (clearly printed)
  • his/her roll class
  • date and time required for passout

If parent /guardian’s surname differs from that of the child, the child’s full name should be clearly shown.

Request for Pass outs should be placed in the box outside the office of the Head Teacher Administration before school on the day required. Pass outs are then collected by students from the Administration Office at first recess.
