At Gosford High School, the Careers Adviser teaches Careers Education on a class withdrawal basis to Year 10 students. Responsibilities also include Board of Studies entries and confirmation of entries for H.S.C and Preliminary H.S.C and S.C. students.  This involves advice and direction to Years 10, 11 and 12 students with regard to subject choices tertiary and career options.  Maintaining a well-resourced Careers Reference centre including appropriate software and audio-visual equipment is central to ensuring that students have access to current information.  Guest speakers are regular visitors to Gosford High and provide valuable insight into tertiary courses and pursuant careers.  Trips are also made to selected University Information Days and to workplaces of interest.  Year 10 students are encouraged to participate in a Work Experience Program which offers the opportunity to spend one week in a workplace of their choice; an ideal opportunity to ‘taste’ a career of interest.  A condition of Work Experience is the completion of a series of Career Interest Tests which provide student with preliminary career direction based on interests, values and abilities.

Interviews are conducted with students as far as possible on an informal, walk-in basis.  Parents too, are regularly interviewed and contact is always encouraged and welcomed.
